How to make a video with ChatGPT
To make a video with ChatGPT, pick an agent-media plan, connect it to ChatGPT inside the app, and ask for a short drama series in one line. ChatGPT interviews you, shows the plan, the cast and the episode 1 script with one price, and films after your yes. Each episode comes back as a vertical video of up to 60 seconds with the same cast. Adding agent-media to ChatGPT depends on your ChatGPT plan.
What you need
- An agent-media plan. Making starts at $49 a month: 300 seconds at 480p or 150 seconds at 720p.
- A ChatGPT account that can use a custom MCP server, which depends on your ChatGPT plan or workspace.
- No other accounts, no API keys and nothing to install.
1. Pick a plan
ChatGPT needs a video tool to film anything, and agent-media is that tool for short drama series. It is an MCP server: a set of tools ChatGPT can call while you chat. Making episodes needs a plan, so the first step is to sign in and check out.
Plans start at $49 a month for 300 seconds of video at 480p or 150 seconds at 720p. That is about ten 30-second episodes, a full season.

The connect steps for Claude, ChatGPT or Codex open right after checkout.
2. Connect ChatGPT inside the app
Right after checkout, the agent-media app shows the steps for ChatGPT. You add agent-media once and sign in through the browser, with no API keys and nothing to install. This guide stops there on purpose: the app shows the current steps for your account.
Adding a custom MCP server depends on your ChatGPT plan or workspace, so check that your ChatGPT account allows it. The same plan works in Claude and Codex too.
3. Ask for a series in one line
Open a new chat in ChatGPT and say what you want. You do not need a plot. If you already have one, put it in the first message and the interview gets shorter.
“Using agent-media, make me a short drama series. Interview me first.”
4. Answer the interview
The interview is free: no paid tool runs while ChatGPT asks. It comes in rounds of up to four multiple-choice questions, with the recommended answer first and room for your own words.
It covers the story, the season size, whether episodes come one at a time or all at once, the two leads, any friends or rivals, the places and whether the series is public or private. If you have no story yet, pick a starter or ask for pitches. Each round repeats back what was recorded, so you can fix an answer before moving on.
5. Approve the plan, the cast and the price
From your answers, ChatGPT writes the story bible, the season grid and the episode 1 script. The grid gives every episode a goal, one turn and a cliffhanger. You see all of it, with one total price for the casting and episode 1.
Nothing paid has run yet. Ask for changes in plain words, or say yes. One yes starts both: casting builds the two leads and up to six friends or rivals, each with a fixed face, a full body and a voice, plus up to eight places inside or outside. That cast and those places carry the whole series.
6. Let it film
Each approved script becomes a storyboard, shot by shot, and then a filmed episode with your cast. Filming runs in the background. ChatGPT checks on it and posts a short line as each stage lands, and if the chat has to end, filming keeps going.
ChatGPT keeps one board beside the chat in a canvas, with the plan, the cast, the sets, each script with its price, the storyboards and the videos. Scroll back to it at any time.
7. Watch the episode
When the episode is done, ChatGPT posts the watch link and the series page. Each episode is a vertical 9:16 video of 15 to 60 seconds at 480p or 720p, with the cast's voices, a score, captions burned in, no watermark and a freeze on the last frame.
If the series is public, it can appear on the agent-media series page next to our own shows. Private series stay yours.
8. Make the next one
Say it in those words. Before writing, ChatGPT reads the story so far: the facts, who knows what and which questions are still open. Then it writes the next script with its price and waits for your yes.
A script can be rewritten until filming starts. After that it is locked, and a change becomes a new episode.
“Make the next one.”
What ChatGPT makes
The One I Left, episode 1, runs 21 seconds. A man orders white roses for his wedding from the florist he left at the altar, and the last line lands the twist: same flowers, different bride.
- JACK
I need flowers for my wedding.
- SOPHIE
Congratulations. What does she like?
- JACK
White roses. Like you wanted.
- SOPHIE
You came here to order those?
- JACK
Same flowers. Different bride.
What it costs
Plans are monthly: $49 for 300 seconds at 480p or 150 at 720p, $149 for 900 or 450, and $499 for 3,600 or 1,800. A season of ten 30-second episodes uses 300 seconds at 480p, and you split your seconds across episodes any way you like.
There is no free trial. If you have not filmed an episode within 7 days, your first payment is refunded in full.
Questions
Can ChatGPT make videos for free?
No. Watching is free: the first episodes of every show on agent-media cost nothing. Making episodes needs a plan, from $49 a month, and there is no free trial.
Can ChatGPT make a video from an image?
Not in this flow. The short drama tools cast your leads from the descriptions you give in the interview, not from a photo you upload.
Which ChatGPT plan do I need?
One that lets you add a custom MCP server. That depends on your ChatGPT plan or workspace, so check it in ChatGPT before you buy.
How long is each video?
Between 15 and 60 seconds an episode, in 9:16, at 480p or 720p. The shows on agent-media run from about 20 to 45 seconds an episode.
