How long is a micro drama episode?
A micro drama episode usually runs about one to two minutes on the big watch apps, and a full story can run to dozens of episodes. Episodes made with agent-media run 15 to 60 seconds: the dramas on our series page run 21 to 28 seconds each and the sitcoms 32 to 45. Shorter episodes still hold a hook, one turn and a cliffhanger, and nothing else.
The industry range
Two sources agree on the range. eMarketer describes microdramas as serialized scripted shows in vertical episodes of roughly 1 to 2 minutes. Subscription Insider (July 20, 2026) calls them one- and two-minute serialized stories, and gives examples: Baddie, a vertical thriller from Spain's Atresplayer, with a first season of 30 episodes of approximately two minutes each, and Telemundo's Armas de Mujer, reworked into 123 two-minute episodes for ReelShort.
So the rule of thumb is short episodes and many of them. A season can run from a handful of episodes to more than a hundred.
How long our episodes are
On agent-media you set the length in the interview, before anything is cast: 30 seconds by default, or anything from 15 to 60 seconds an episode. Our own studio shows run ten episodes each, and their real lengths are:
- Dramas: 21 to 28 seconds an episode. Night Shift, The Second Key, Boss Lady and The Body Double all sit in this range.
- Sitcoms: 32 to 45 seconds an episode. Runway, Sudden Fortune and The Millionaire Next Door need the extra beats for a punchline and a reaction.
- A whole ten-episode drama season: about 220 to 250 seconds.
What fits in each length
Spoken English runs about 2.6 words a second, and a scene of six to eight seconds holds two or three short lines. That makes the lengths easy to plan:
- 15 seconds: two scenes. One problem and one sting. Good for a teaser or a pilot test.
- 30 seconds: three or four scenes, six to ten lines. The default for a drama season: hook, push, turn, cliffhanger.
- 45 seconds: room for a third character or a second location, or a sitcom's punchline, reaction and button.
- 60 seconds: the most an episode can be here. Use it for a premiere or a finale, not for every episode.
How to choose
Shorter is usually better for drama. The turn has to land between 55% and 75% of the runtime and the episode should end two seconds earlier than feels safe, and both are easier to hit in 25 seconds than in 60. Sitcoms are the exception, because a joke needs a beat of silence after it.
Length is also budget. Plans are sold in video seconds: $49 a month buys 300 seconds at 480p or 150 at 720p, $149 buys 900 or 450, and $499 buys 3,600 or 1,800. At 30 seconds an episode, the $49 plan makes a ten-episode season at 480p. You can split your seconds any way you like, as long as each episode stays at 60 seconds or less.
How many episodes in a season
The apps run long seasons because they sell episodes one by one. When you are starting out, a shorter season tells you faster whether the idea works. The agent-media interview offers 3, 5 or 10 episodes, or anything from 1 to 20, and episodes 1 to 3 of every public show are free to watch, so the third episode is planned as the strongest so far.
A 32-second sitcom episode
Runway, episode 1, runs 32 seconds: eight lines, a running joke about runway and a punchline about a brick. Compare it with a 21-second drama episode such as Night Shift's and you can hear the difference the extra seconds make.

Questions
What is the average length of a micro drama episode?
On the big apps, about one to two minutes. On agent-media, 15 to 60 seconds, and our own dramas average about 23 seconds.
How long is a whole micro drama series?
It varies widely. App series can run dozens of episodes, and one cited example has 123. A ten-episode season of our dramas runs about four minutes in total.
Can an episode be longer than 60 seconds?
Not on agent-media. Each episode is capped at 60 seconds, and a longer story becomes more episodes.
Why are micro drama episodes so short?
Because they are watched on phones, often in short breaks, and each episode has to sell the next one. A short episode keeps one hook, one turn and one cliffhanger, with no room to drift.
What length should my first series use?
Start at 30 seconds or a little less. Ten such episodes fit the $49 plan at 480p, and there is room for a hook, a turn and a cliffhanger.
